Jakub Julian Ziolkowski

Jakub Julian Ziolkowski studied at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he lives and works. His oil paintings, which reference Philip Guston as well as modernist abstraction, are both irreverent and graphically sophisticated. A familiar cast of characters populates his paintings, including plants, skeletons, viscera, serpents, and other creatures, many of which are seen in an untitled three-panel 2008 oil-on-board painting, and in his 2008 painting Sculpture.
