Jacob Ouillette

Jacob Ouilletten creates rhythmic abstract paintings that feature vibrant colors and patterns. Each work is driven by repeated elements or notes that resemble brickwork, pinwheels, and swatches. He does not plan out compositions in advance, but instead allows the work to form during the act of painting. Ouilletten is inspired by motion, musical compositions, and performance, and hears notes with each brushstroke.

Jacob Ouilletten’s work has been exhibited in group and solo shows, including Dean Project, Long Island City, Nancy Margolis Gallery, New York, Open Source, Brooklyn, Peter Marcelle Project, Southampton, and Boltax Gallery, Shelter Island. Ouilletten has received fellowships from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Edward F. Albee Foundation.
