Israel Martinez
With one foot in electronic experimental music and another one in sound art, Israel Martínez sees his art as a free discipline that takes sound as source to different artistic purposes. “I prefer to improvise with any kind of sound source, from field recordings (acting as an improviser at the time of the capture of the sound) to voice, synthesizer, or software,” Martínez explains. Investigating sound, music, and their relation to image, he has produced video installations, site-specific projects, actions, interventions and graphic works through the use of photography, typing, photocopying and other media. He has also made multi-channel sound installations and composed music between electroacoustic and spatiality.
His aural work is published and distributed worldwide by labels such as Sub Rosa, Aagoo, Musica Moderna and Abolipop. He also co-founder of the multimedia platform Suplex and the music label Abolipop. He has had solo exhibitions at Museo de Arte Raúl Anguiano in Guadalajara, Casa del Lago in Mexico City, and Daadgalerie in Berlin, among other venues. His work has been included in group exhibitions at institutions such as Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, Haus für elektronische Kunste in Basel, and Museo del Periodismo y las Artes Gráfcas in Guadalajara.
