Georgia Dickie

Up and coming Canadian sculptor Georgia Dickie’s work addresses the complexities of contemporary object-based practice, and is characterized by a deep interest in found materials and their inherent limitations. Her approach is rooted in both tactile and visual materiality, establishing a personal relationship to the found materials that populate her work. Experimenting with tension and relief, each of her objects is created in a cycle of interaction, negating their intended forms and existing as metaphor. Dickie does not make distinctions in her collection, but rather allows each found piece to realize its unseen potential.  

Exhibitions include V1 Gallery, Copenhagen, Greene Exhibitions, Los Angeles, Croy Nielsen, Berlin, Cooper Cole, Toronto, The Power Plant, Toronto, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto, Oakville Galleries, Oakville, Nudashank, Baltimore. She is the 2014 recipient of the TFVA prize and will be the Canada Council for the Arts artist in residence at Acme Studios in London, UK through February 2015.
