Erik Frydenborg

Los Angeles based artist Erik Frydenborg is most known for his collage works, which he adapts into large-scale sculptural forms. Merging the modalities of architecture, illustration, collage, and sculpture; Frydenborg's works appear as historical artifacts derived from a fictional realm. In December 2015, David Pagel of the LA Times wrote of Frydenborg's sculptural works "imagine what might happen if a local exterminator, whose favorite movie is "Minions," were commissioned to build a set of polychrome urethane gravestones for aliens whose love of sci-fi paperbacks from the 1950s was matched by their obsession with Cold War spy stories from the '60s." 

Frydenborg received his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1999, and his MFA from USC in 2005. He has been featured in Artforum, Artweek, and LA Times. His work has been exhibited in a number of solo and group shows at galleries including Public Fiction in Los Angeles; Night Gallery in Los Angeles; Team Gallery in New York; Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago; The Put in Glendale; Albert Baronian in Brussels; and Cherry and Martin in Los Angeles.
