Doris Guo

Brooklyn-based artist Doris Guo often makes work about her relationship to cultural heritage; having grown up in New York to parents born in China, her work explores how Chinese tradition is filtered through Western culture. For instance, her soot-on-glass paintings reference traditional Chinese funeral ceremonies that involve the burning of paper and money; and the truncated chairs she showed at Bodega reference the generic furniture often found in American Chinese restaurants. 

Guo has had solo exhibitions at Bodega, Princess, Hotel Art Pavilion, and Real Fine Arts in New York and has been included in group exhibitions at 47 Canal in New York, Crèvecoeur in Paris, France, Manila Institute in New York, CACBM in Paris, France, LUMP Projects in Raleigh, NC, EVAC in London, Ontario, and MCBerny in Berlin, Germany.
