David Reed

In a cinematic way, David Reed sees the edge of the painting as an implied continuation, like the frame in a film. The sense of expansion gives room for his signature brush marks to travel freely. The implied mobility of the mark allows the viewer to reconsider her relationship to abstraction, an abstraction that Reed finds not only reflective of the body per se but one that offers other aspects of self reflection. 

David Reed is represented by Galerie Schmidt Maczollek in Cologne, Häusler Contemporary in Munich and Zürich, and Peder Lund in Oslo. Reed’s works on paper are represented by Peter Blum Gallery in New York. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, among others.
