Anahita Razmi

German-born Iranian artist Anahita Razmi works across media, including video, installation, new media, and performance. Her practice examines themes of gender, nationality, culture, and art history. A focal point in her work is the exploration of the media's perception of the Middle East.  A signature of her practice is to detach symbols, images, and objects from their original meaning and context. How your Veil can help you in the Case of an Earthquake (Lesson 1-8) is a video and performance where a woman demonstrates how a veil can be used as a functional object in the event of an emergency. This humorous and political video is characteristic of her work.

Anahita Razmi’s work has been exhibited in group and solo shows internationally, including Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, Salsali Private Museum, Dubai, Farjam Foundation, Dubai, The National Art Center, Tokyo, Goethe-Institut, Paris, 55th Venice Biennale, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, and Whitechapel Gallery, London. She has received a range of grants and awards, including The Emdash Award from the Frieze Foundation and the Art Division / New Face Award from the Japan Media Arts Festival.
