Ana Belén Cantoni
Peruvian artist Ana Belén Cantoni uses various media to investigate the dichotomy between interior and exterior space. Inspired by the relationship between architecture, landscape and the body, Cantoni weaves fabric, wire and thread to create installations that twist and disrupt the surrounding space. The artist says of her work, “I am interested in the idea of the body as something that has no limits, and that is constantly being affected by the surrounding architecture and landscape. Through the use of material I seek to build physicality in order to act on the viewer on a corporeal level. Drawing is pivotal to my practice, by translating its concepts to spatial terms I have managed to create a cycle in which my tridimensional work informs, and is informed by my drawing practice. As I see it, the difference between drawing on paper and drawing in space is analogous to the difference between written and spoken language."
