Alain Biltereyst

Painter Alain Biltereyst strives to make work that is as "simple and poetic as possible." Though influenced by the hard edge, geometric abstraction of the 1960s, Biltereyst infuses his work with contemporary graphic design and a skilled but understated handling of paint. He is further influenced by the quotidian: advertisements on the sides of trucks, currency logos, and the shapes drawn by a fence or the side of a building. His work, usually small and understated, activates its surroundings by necessitating close attention from the viewer, and it often appears in unlikely locations such as a window, a field, or painted wall, upon which they easily blend in. Using a simple, pared-down palette, Biltereyst ably evokes a crisp, streamlined aesthetic at first glance. Despite this, Biltereyst uses raw wood as his canvas and therefore actively allows for the occurrence of error and random effects within the confines of his geometric, mapped-out canvases.

Biltereyst has exhibited extensively in international galleries since 2008, and participated in art fairs including FRIEZE NY and London, NADA Cologne and Miami, Art Brussels, and The Border in Ghent.
