William Eric Brown

Brown’s photographs, sculpture and works on paper typically draw from architecture and the built environment such as airports, runways, bridges, rural pathways and highways, communicating a personal exploration of what it means to be in constant motion and transition. His photographs, for example, depict both geographical places and states of mind through the uniform layering of pictorial devices that hint at the landscape depicted underneath.  Rendering the rendered image nearly obsolete, Brown diminishes representational value and preciousness, imbuing the picture plane with states of mind instead. 

Brown's most recent solo exhibition was in 2016, titled Twenty Sixteen, at Harper’s Apartment in NY, NY, which featured a selection of  photographs and unique handmade books. In 2012 he had a solo exhibition titled In Transit, at Glenn Horowitz Booksellers in Easthampton, NY.  His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions including, In the Making at Luxembourg & Dayan Gallery, NY in early 2016 and See you on the Other Side at 601 Artspace in NY in 2016. Brown's work is included in the collection of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, MN and numerous private collections.
