Sreshta Premnath

Sreshta Premnath received his MFA from Bard College in 2006 and was a studio fellow at the Whitney Independent Study program in 2008. His work explores how otherness is constituted through complex matrices of knowledge, power, subjugation, and mediation. His installation Contraband, for instance, is comprised of three steel trunks containing indigenous medicinal plant species from which American pharmaceutical corporations have patented isolated genes for commercial use, drawing our attention to the ways in which systems of knowledge can be colonized. Premnath lives and works in New York.
