Ruth Proctor

British artist Ruth Proctor explores fleeting moments through performance, sculpture, installation, video, and works on paper. Proctor was trained as a champion ice skater and as a result she is fascinated by notions of repetition and chance in performance. Her visual practice draws from her athletic training and incorporates sightlines, staging, and rehearsal. Her work is influenced by several artists and choreographers who engage in concepts of time and space, including John Cage, Yvonne Rainer, and Merce Cunningham.

Ruth Proctor’s work has been widely included in group and solo shows, including The Mews Project Space, London, Camden Arts Centre, London, Whitechapel Gallery, London, VI Bienal de Jafre, Barcelona, Nomas Foundation, Rome, The Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela, and CAPC Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux.
