I. Helen Jilavu

Born to recent Romanian immigrants, I. Helen Jilavu studied photography at the Fine Arts Academy in Mainz, Germany, where she continues to live and work. Her photographs document personal explorations, usually centered on her own figure. In one body of work, she is pictured in a series of abandoned rooms, which reveal their histories through signs and markings. She is also cofounder and cocurator of the short-term, site-specific exhibition spaces Moguntia Projekt (2003) and China Project (2006).
