Dominique Figarella
In the work of Dominique Figarella, the viewer constitutes a most important part of painting as a device. If the painting, as an object, conveys the artist’s emotion and, at the same time, the craftsman’s freedom, the work is then defined by the interaction between object, space, and the spectator’s attention. Figarella’s work is akin to a drama, necessarily incomplete—the choice of the staging and the reception of the audience give it its actual dimension.
Figarella paintings have been shown regularly in France, Austria, the USA, Switzerland and Spain. In 2008 he had a solo show at La Station in Nice and took part in several collective exhibitions including Kunstraseum, Salzburg, Hangar à Bananes, Nantes. In 2009, he had a solo show at the Museum of Sérignan, and one at the Carré Sainte Anne in Montpellier, in February 2010, at Le Life, Saint-Nazaire. In the years 2010-2014 he presented Soapéra, a work done in collaboration with Mathilde Monnier, in Paris Centre Pompidou, Montpellier, Frankfurt and Utrecht. In 2011 he took part in collective exhibitions at Espace d’Art Concret, Mouans-Sartoux, and the Chagall Museum, Nice. He has also shown at Villa Arson, Nice, theContemporary Art Center of Meymac, La Maison Rouge, …
