Mark Leckey

Since the late 1990s, when he first presented the seminal work Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, Mark Leckey’s dynamic and varied output has made a significant impact and continues to be an important influence on the work of a new generation of artists in the UK and internationally. Through his videos, installations and live performances, Leckey explores the relationship of cultural artefacts to human subjectivity and the production of desire. He re-animates the things around us—objects, images, characters and brands—to examine the iconography of popular culture and its affective pull.

Leckey’s exhibition history since the early 2000s includes solo exhibitions at many major international galleries and museums including WIELS Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels, Belgium, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, USA, Banff Centre, Alberta, Canada, the Serpentine Gallery, London, UK, Milton Keynes Gallery, Milton Keynes, UK, Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, Germany, Le Consortium, Dijon, France, Portikus, Frankfurt, Germany, and Migros Museum, Zurich, Switzerland. Leckey was awarded the Turner prize in 2008.
