Malcolm Liepke

Inspired by the work of artists such as Edgar Degas, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Diego Velázquez, American figurative painter Malcolm T. Leipke creates lush, sensual portraits. Using a specific method of wet-on-wet oil painting, Leipke’s loose and fluid brushstrokes create intimately voyeuristic portrayals of young men and women. While there is a highly sexual nature to many of his works, Liepke’s interest is in the emotionally intensity of his subject’s gaze. Says the artist, “the emotional contact you get from looking at someone’s face is what inspires my work.”

Leipke has shown his works in exhibitions worldwide including Nikola Rukaj Gallery, Toronto, Canada, Albemarle Gallery, London, Arcadia Fine Arts, New York, Track 16 Gallery, Santa Monica, CA, and Buschlen Mowatt Gallery, Vancouver, B.C., among others. His works are included in a number of private, public and corporate collections.
