Opening Reception for "Llyn Foulkes"
at the New Museum

Making its way from the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the sizable retrospective of Llyn Foulkes, which features almost 100 diverse works by the occasionally disturbing painter and assemblagist, finally opens in New York at the East Village institution. The artist will also stop by the following night to give a lecture about his life and work.

Opening Reception for "New Prints/New Narratives"
at the International Print Center New York (IPCNY)

In what marks the 45th iteration of the institution's "New Prints Program," this collection is comprised of groups of juried exhibitions, each containing prints made within the last calendar year, making for some exciting and fresh takes on the contemporary state of affairs. If you get there an hour early you can hear some of the artists, of which there are many, talk about their work and the program.
Opening Reception for Joseph Zito's "Tempus Fugit"
at Lennon, Weinburg, Inc.

Titled "time flies" in Latin, this exhibition focuses on our inability to halt the ceaseless march of time through a number of works, ranging from a frozen hourglass to symbolism-filled works on paper that can be interpreted either as boats used for passage or tombstones marking the end of our journey through life.

Opening Reception for "6<<<>>>6" at Interstate, 66 Knickerbocker Avenue, Brooklyn, 6 – 10 p.m. (Through June 30th)
In the first of a two-part summer program at the gallery, three curators, dealer Kevin Ruben Jacobs, nearby NURTUREart's Rachel Steinberg, and Greenpoint gallery Cleopatra's, have been invited to take over the gallery's multiple exhibition spaces, where they'll be installing work by a dozen different artists.
Opening Reception for "The Indifference of Wisdom" at NURTUREart, 56 Bogart Street, Brooklyn, 7 – 9 p.m. (Through July 12th)
This exhibition, which was curated by students from Juan Morel Campos High School involved in Project Curate, and their mentor, Julian A. Jimarez Howard, co-director of both OUTLET Fine Art and Associated Gallery in Brooklyn, features works that fly in the face of expected social norms, challenging conventions with their examples of alternative modes of action.

Opening Reception for "Self Help" at Rawson Projects, 223 Franklin Street, Brooklyn, 6 – 8 p.m. (Through July 21st)
For the gallery's summer group exhibition, MoMA PS1 curatorial assistant Jocelyn Miller has gathered work by CONFETTISYSTEM, Thomas Jeppe, Georgie Roxby Smith, and Pinar Yolacan, in a show revolving around ideas of "communal sanctuary" and personal disguises. The opening will also feature a special performance by the musical group No Lands.
Screening of the "Collected Film Works of M. Henry Jones" at Microscope Gallery, 4 Charles Place, Brooklyn, 7 – 8 p.m.
Known for the experimental films and photographs he's been creating for the past 30 years, like the 1979 animated music video "Soul City," M. Henry James will stop by the gallery to introduce a selection of his work, which will include some TV commercials, influential early works, and an in-progress collaboration with musician Daniel Johnston. Also be sure to check out the gallery's current exhibition "Overt & Covert: technology and portraiture," in which Jones's 3-D "Fly's Eye" portraits of Jim Jarmusch and Robert Frank are on display.
