Gabriel Orozco

With a body of work that ranges from video and installation art to drawing, photography, and sculpture, Gabriel Orozco is considered one of the most influential artists of the last few decades. Originally from Veracruz, Mexico, Orozco is an avid traveler, and his art reflects this passion, incorporating the landscapes and objects he encounters but delivering them with a twist that merges art, imagination, and reality. Many of Orozco's works have become classics of contemporary art, such as the modified Citroí«n car that he surgically reduced to two-thirds its normal width and a real human scull that he covered with a graphite grid pattern. Throughout his varying practice, he confronts philosophical and political issues but presents them as humble moments and chance encounters.

Orozco has exhibited at prestigious venues including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Venice Biennale. A major retrospective of Orozco's work was assembled at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, in 2000 and traveled to Museo Internacional Rufino Tamayo, Mexico City, and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterey, Mexico.
