Carmelo Tedeschi

Known as the creator of one-of-a-kind accessories for conceptual designer Martin Margiela under the name “Line-0”, Carmelo Tedeschi developed a remarkable knowledge of his craft and an inventive approach to a ubiquitous material, leather, however almost invisible in contemporary art practice.  These free standing sculptures diplay non-orientable surfaces mixing the sphere and the plane allowing multiple angles of view. Made with untreated leather, these abstract unique objects attempt not to represent the outer but the essence of things. A sense of primitivism emanates from the use of organic material carved only with human skills, nevertheless the sophistication of the treatment, the luxuriousness of the texture allude to an affirmative type of interaction with nature, obliterating technology and the alienating sameness of reproductability. 

His work has been recently exhibited at the Museo di Santa Giulia, Brescia and the Daimler art collection, Berlin, his sculpture is displayed and has serve of model for the mirror staircase in Pritzker prize architect Christian de Portzamparc and Peter Marino’s Dior building in Seoul.
